MAN ARRESTED AFTER STABBING NEAR DELAND

An argument between two men escalated into a stabbing which ultimately led to an arrest near DeLand Tuesday night. The 31-year-old stabbing victim was driven in another person’s car to Florida Hospital DeLand for treatment of his non life-threatening wounds. His assailant was still on scene when Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies and DeLand Police Department officers arrived. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a knife.

 

The Sheriff’s Office was notified about the incident at approximately 7:49 p.m. Marcus Brockington and Lawrence Jones know each other and were hanging out together at 1329 S. Adelle Ave. It’s not clear what the two started arguing about, but the fight eventually resulted in Jones, 19, stabbing Brockington in the back of the head and shoulders with a pocketknife. Brockington then ran away. A short time later Brockington wound up at the hospital while deputies found and arrested Jones near the crime scene.

 

During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that both men had open arrest warrants. The pair was wanted for separate violation of probation charges. Brockington’s probation violation was related to a child abuse case out of Volusia County. Jones’ probation violation was related to a petty theft case out of Seminole County. Both men are from Orlando. Jones was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach without incident. Brockington will be transported there after he is medically cleared.
