The County of Volusia is designated District 7. With the exception of “home rule” counties, the Medical Examiner’s Commission submits candidates to the governor for appointment as district medical examiners. As delineated in the Florida Statutes, the Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for the determination of the cause, manner and mechanism of death under certain circumstances.
