Courtrooms
Large courtrooms:
Large courtrooms will serve multi-litigant civil and criminal cases
and large volume dockets. Each will contain
a 14-person jury box, a connection to detainee holding areas and a large
spectator gallery. This courtroom also may be used for arraignments and
ceremonial occasions.
Standard courtrooms:
Standard courtrooms also contain a 14-person jury box and a connection to
detainee holding areas. They will be used for standard court proceedings.
Special courtrooms:
Special courtrooms contain a seven-person jury box and a connection to
detainee holding. They will serve Circuit and County Court cases.
Grand Jury room:
The Grand Jury room contains space
for 21 jurors, prosecution and defense attorneys and a grand master.
Hearing rooms:
Hearing rooms will have a formal bench arrangement and will be used
for non-jury proceedings.
Circuit Court:
The Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction that has
responsibility for felony criminal cases, civil cases valued over $25,000,
juvenile cases, probate cases and all types of family and domestic cases
and appeals from County Court and certain administrative agencies. A wide
range of proceedings are conducted. Judges rotate among various divisions.
County Court:
County Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. Judges have
responsibility for misdemeanor criminal cases, civil cases valued under
$25,000 and all traffic cases.
