LEARN ABOUT ISLAM AT THE
NEW SMYRNA BEACH REGIONAL LIBRARY
Learn about Islam during a six-week DVD learning series at the New
Smyrna Beach Regional Library. The first lecture will be from 3 - 4 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the library auditorium. The series will continue
at the same time for the next five Wednesdays, ending Oct. 15.
In the Great Learning DVD series, “Great World Religions: Islam,”
John Esposito, a professor of religion and international affairs and
Islamic studies at Georgetown University, explains facts and myths
surrounding Islam and its adherents.
Topics include Muhammad, Muslim beliefs about other faiths, Jihad,
the role of women in Islam, whether the Quran condones terrorism, and
what the Quran says about God. Esposito also will discuss Islamic
contributions to science, art and mathematics and whether Islam is
compatible with capitalism, democracy and modernization.
The series, sponsored by the Friends of the New Smyrna Beach Regional
