MARINE SCIENCE CENTER OFFERS GUIDED TOURS, ‘THE
MAGNIFICENT MANATEE’ AND SQUID PROGRAMS IN AUGUST
The Volusia County Marine Science Center (MSC) offers a wide variety of
programs for youths and adults throughout the year, and the
opportunities continue this August. All programs are open to the public.
MSC admission applies for all on-site events, and reservations are
required.
Students young and old can discover the many wonders of marine life in
environmentally rich Volusia County through the following opportunities:
- 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9:
The magnificent manatee - Do manatees have eyelashes? How many
manatees are there left in the wild? Learn the answers to these
questions and more during MSC’s presentation “The Magnificent
Manatee.” Join MSC educator and Master Naturalist Rich Colesanti for
this fun and informative presentation about the manatee’s natural
habitat, diet and more. This program is free with paid admission to

- 1 p.m. Saturday, August 23: Squid
dissection - Ever wonder how squid swim? Curious about
how they look before they make it to a restaurant menu? Join MSC
resident biology instructor and Master Naturalist Rusty Norris for
this fun and informative day of biology. Learn the ins and outs of
dissecting a squid. This program is perfect for the up-and-coming
biologist in your family, or anyone who just wants to get
scientific. Gloves will be provided and older clothing that can get
dirty is recommended. Participants must be at least 10 years of age.
- Daily: Guided tours of the MSC
-The MSC education staff continues to offer daily guided tours.
Please call for times or check the activity board at the MSC
entrance for specific tour times. Please allow a minimum of one hour
to participate in the tour. No registration is required, however,
space is limited.
The Marine Science Center, 100 Lighthouse Drive, Ponce Inlet, is open
from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday and noon - 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $4 for seniors, $5 for adults, $2 for children 3-12 and
