APPLICATIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR CITIZENS ACADEMY

The application deadline for Volusia County Government’s Citizens Academy has been extended to Thursday, July 31.

The academy is a hands-on awareness program designed to educate and inform citizens about how county government works and operates. The 12-week program, which meets from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesdays, will begin Aug. 12.

The Citizens Academy offers a wide range of seminars and workshops featuring the inner workings of Volusia County Government. Topics include elections, growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments, budgets and more. Citizens will ride with the Volusia County Beach Patrol, trek though the scrub habitat at Lyonia Preserve, and shadow a county official for a hands-on experience in the county organization.

Applications are available online at www.volusia.org/countycouncil/vcca/vcca.htm and must be turned in to the County Manager's office. The Citizens Academy program is limited to 20 participants. Applicants are selected through an interview process, and there is no charge for the program.

For information, please contact Cindy Hancock Finney at (386) 822-5060, ext. 2448.
