NEW SPONSOR SOUGHT FOR RSVP PROGRAM
The federal Corporation for National and Community Service is seeking
a new public agency or private nonprofit sponsor to take over operations
of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) serving Volusia
County.
A bidder’s conference will be from 10 a.m. - noon Wednesday, July 9,
at the Volusia County Health Department, room 516C, 1845 Holsonback
Drive, Daytona Beach, to discuss the application process, requirements
for sponsors, federal regulations and funding parameters.
According to the federal agency, prospective sponsors should have a
working relationship with a variety of community agencies and
organizations, experience in developing volunteer service opportunities
and working with senior citizens, a strong base of local financial
support, and the capability to manage a federal grant program.
Federal grant funds totaling $67,655 will be available for the
project year beginning Sept. 3. The organization selected will be
responsible for raising a 10-percent local match for the first year, 20
percent in the second year, and 30 percent in the third and subsequent
years of sponsorship.
More than 700 RSVP volunteers provided more than 90,000 hours of
service to more than 90 nonprofit organizations in Volusia County in
2007.
Applications are due Aug. 4. For more information, please contact
Gail Killeen, federal program specialist, at (407) 648-6117, ext. 4, or
